As the 2024 National NonProfit Day approaches this Saturday, August 17th, we here at CCH would like to take a moment to send our mahalo to our membership, donors, volunteers, and supporters. We could not accomplish all that we do without you. 2024 has been a busy year. Here are a few of the highlights:
- March – Jonee met with Hawai‘i state leaders and other agencies in Washington, DC as a representative of Pacific Remote Islands Coalition (PRIC) regarding Pacific Remote Islands
- March through June – CCH participated in four community events centered around Earth Month and World Ocean Day
- April – CCH hosted a successful 9th annual Manu o Kū Festival along with our planning partners (National Wildlife Federation, Hui Manu o Kū, Hawai‘i Audubon Society, Pacific Rim Conservation, and US Fish & Wildlife)
- May – we testified in support of the aquarium fish bill, aiming to stop fish collection for the aquarium pet trade
- June – passed a resolution at the National Wildlife Federation annual meeting to protect sharks at a national level; while in Washington, DC, CCH also met with various Hawai‘i state leaders regarding marine concerns in Pacific waters; attended Festival of the Pacific as representatives at the PRIC booth
- July – a 5 acre property was donated to the North Shore Community Land Trust as settlement for a portion of the lawsuit regarding Marconi Point; attended the annual conservation conference by Hawai‘i Conservation Alliance
- August – settlement reached with Grand Wailea resort on Maui to save endangered seabirds
The year is not done and we have plenty more fight in us to continue protecting Hawai‘i’s wildlife and ecosystems! As you reflect on the nonprofit organizations that you hold dear to your heart, we hope that you will continue to support CCH. We are thankful to you for helping us spread our conservation message and keeping us in the fight for the past 74 years.
