NOAA has proposed increased protection for the oceanic whitetip shark (Carcharhinus longimanus) under the Endangered Species Act (ESA) section 4(d). This would be a huge win in working to save the currently threatened shark species. Oceanic whitetip shark populations are in decline largely due to bycatch.
